The Navy of the Army of Yugoslavia (abbreviated RM) was an armed formation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia whose main task was to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the FR Yugoslavia at sea and inland waterways. It existed from May 20, 1992 until February 4, 2003, when it changed its name to the Navy of the Army of Serbia and Montenegro. On April 27, 1992, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was proclaimed, and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia formally ceased to exist. The JNA existed until May 20, 1992, when it was abolished and replaced by the Yugoslav Army. With that, the Yugoslav Navy ceases to exist, and the Navy of the Army of Yugoslavia takes its place. The RMVJ was created from the units, personnel and equipment that withdrew from Croatia and Slovenia to Montenegro (the JRM began to leave Vis and Lastovo on May 20, 1992).
