WW2 era USMC designated Ka-Bar MK2 fighting knife, orig early leather scabbard

Description: Classic US military MK2 fighting knife with USMC-marked blade manufactured by Ka-Bar (Union Cutlery) in Olean, NY; early-manufacture type MK2 with USMC-marked blade and early issue all-leather scabbard. The knife is about 12″ /30.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-7/8″ /17.5. Ricasso is marked USMC on one side, KA-BAR on the other. The edge has been lightly re-sharpened; it is very sharp still; the tip is a bit rounded. Stacked leather washers handle with thick round hammer-like steel pommel and iron double-guard. The handle is tight; the guard has a tiny bit of a play; there a few cut marks on the guard/pommel; light pitting on the blade is noted for accuracy. Original leather scabbard is in very good shape, considering the age; GI's initials D.A.F. and 45 are scratched on the front panel. This is the the early-manufacture blade-marked MK2 and early WW2 issue all-leather scabbard. Mark 2 is a classic American WW2 era fighting knife; this type was used in combat by the US Army and the Navy men alike in all theaters of the War. Attached is the WW2 period photo of US Marines arned with the same MK2 type at the firing position on one of the Pacific theather icelands (photo is not included with ther knife). This is a desirable USMC-marked early-production MK2 specimen with an early-war GI-initialed leather scabbard. These early leather scabbards proved to be too fragile in the field – the leather would simply rot and fall apart after contact with seawater. Moving forward, the Navy procurement had quickly replaced the leather with the more durable composite-materials scabbards. Early-production USMC-designated MK2s with original and correct all-leather scabbards are scarce nowadays. This MK2 is well-used; it is about 12″ / 30.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-7/8″ / 17.5 cm long. Ricasso is marked USMC on one side, KA-BAR on the other. Original all-leather scabbard is in very good shape, considering the age; all original rivets and stitching are intact. GI's initials D.A.F. and 45 are scratched on the front panel. During the war most of MK2s were used in the field as intended; these early MK2s are hard to find in better grades. This attractive USMC-designated MK2 fighter will be a great addition to any collection. The knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; these are the actual photos.
