The very red color of the Calcite indicates that this piece resided very close to the ore body, very possibly from the 340 level of the mine. Color like this is becoming a scarce attribute. This specimen was collected by a Sterling Hill miner and was part of his personal collection. From the Sterling Hill Zinc Mine, Ogdensburg, Sussex County, New Jersey.
