Their styles are very different, but Talbert finds in them an inspiration and point of departure to create his own unique stylistic jazz. ABOUT THE ARTIST Tom Talbert is a gifted composer, arranger and bandleader. Talbert has deep roots in the big bands he saw and heard in the late 30's, and was part of the exciting modern jazz world of the 40's and 50's. Talbert had his own band in the 1940's with musicians like Art Pepper, Claude Williamson, Milt Bernhart and Jack Montrose as regular members. Over the years he's written for bandleaders Claude Thornhill, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Oscar Pettiford, and many more. His unique style displays highly developed contemporary big band jazz writing and playing. In Spring 2000, at age 76, NPR selected Talbert as the focus of their popular radio show, Jazz Profiles hosted by Nancy Wilson, further showing that Talbert's work continues to be fresh, original and forward looking.
