Description: LIVING ESTATE SALE (Details at the end of description) For your consideration is a Wilesco D24 Live Steam Engine made in Germany in the 1960s.The early version of the whistle/pressure relief valve was discontinued in the early 1970s due to its cost. This is a fantastic engine. It is quite large and powerful. And it has been very mistreated. While this engine is in good mechanical condition, it had a hard life.My best guess is that it was given to a kid who was very curious and experimental and not afraid to experiment.So the Dremel went into action and the boiler housing was cut in the back (see numerous photos).Also, the pressure line was cut at - at least - two places and re-connected with a piece of plastic tubing. Nevertheless, the mechanical aspect of the engine is very strong and, aside the sabotaged section, looks pretty good.It has been air tested (video) and should not give much trouble to operate on steam. Sometimes, an older gasket has dried up, needing replacement. Hopefully, that won't be the case. While it runs very well on air, I would not recommend firing it with the plastic tubing connections.I would recommend replacing either the entire tubing or made a new solid copper or brass connection.The pressure gauge runs well. When the lines are secured, it should operate on steam without much trouble.You might be able to find a new boiler housing or you might want to make something to hide the damage.Or you might sell the parts. There are plenty of them. Here is the list of thing that I know are missing : - Boiler housing back section, - Smole stack, - Condensation tray. More things to know : - The drive belt for the (decorative) governor is not original and appears unreliable, - The little weight for the whistle/pressure relief valve is not original but a casting based on the original. I don't think I am forgetting anything. You will need some solid fuel pellets (anywhere camping products are sold) and using solely distilled water is strongly recommended. Wilesco decided a few years ago to discontinue the D24. That's too bad, this is a fantastic, large and powerful engine. I guess the cost of production was just getting too high.A 100% new one is probably difficult to find nowadays. Condition : Now, this is an interesting specimen... This engine is very strong mechanically but was "tortured", likely by a very curious little boy who was not afraid of experimentation. The front part looks very good, but then, when you look at the back, the back of the boiler housing was cut off (see photos).
