Description: There is creasing to the front covers. Strange Adventures #117 DC; 1st App of the Atomic Knights 10¢ Cover 1st Appearance of the Atomic Knights (Sgt Gardner Grayle; Wayne Hobard; Hollis Hobard; Bryndon Smith; Douglas Herald; Marene Herald); Atomic Knights reprinted in DC Super-Stars #2 For most of its 244-issue run, Strange Adventures hosted a rather unremarkable collection of science fiction and monster stories. However, several characters that started here were remade into some of DC's most inventive and original heroes. First came the Atomic Knights in issue #117. These long-running characters were a sort of post-apocalyptic Knights of the Round Table. Later, their origin was revised, à la Miracleman, to state that the adventures had all been computer-inspired delusions of the lead character. Issue #180 saw the introduction of Animal Man, a rather plain hero who took on the powers of animals around him. Writer Grant Morrison gave him a surreal bent and used him to represent man's struggle with nature. Finally came the eerie Deadman in issue #205, a great character from the start. Deadman was the spirit of a murdered aerialist who inhabits the bodies of the living to fight evil. We try to describe comic defects that are not easily seen, so we rely on the large images we provide. These generally show the front cover, back cover, side views, and centerfold, which will show the quality of the interior pages.
