Description: This commemorative Crown was minted in 1965 to honour the late Sir Winston Churchill upon his death. The Crown features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and a depiction of Churchill on the reverse. The coin is of a denomination of Crown and was manufactured in the United Kingdom by the Royal Mint. (A second coin commemorating his contributions and legacy was made in 2015- not included.) Winston Churchill died on 24 January 1965 at the age of 90. He was a member of Parliament for 64 years, under 6 monarchs. He was prime minister between May 1940 - 1945, playing a leading role in bringing WWII to an end and victory for Britain. He was prime minister for a second term between 1951 - 1955. Amongst Churchill’s other achievements: He worked as a journalist (becoming a prisoner of war in South Africa, and escaping), an army officer, an artist, and a writer (receiving a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1953).
