Description: Ellis Peters, 'A Morbid Taste for Bones.' 1st American Edition, 1978, Morrow. Warmly inscribed and dated on the title page at the time of publication by Ellis Peters, who has also added her actual name, Edith (Pargeter). Accompanied by a wonderful intimate four sided typed letter by Ellis Peters to whom she is sending the Cadfael book. The letter describes her appreciation at having learnt Latin as a child as it has helped her writing. It also discusses the troubles she has suffered in trying to travel to Prague, 'It's far from cheap, but who cares? I seem to be making a lot of money this year, I never do too badly.' Peters describes the troubles she has had with builders 'I've had a terribly apologetic letter from head office, saying that as a token of their regret they're sening [sic] me a bouquet of flowers! Male chauvinist pigs! Just because it's a woman! If I'd been a man it would have had to be a bottle of brandy, or something useful. I haven't had the flowers yet either.' Peters also discusses how when the builders were there she 'spent all the time holed up in the dining-room, typing a new thriller, which I've now despatched to Macmillan and to Debbie Owen, who is my agent.' Peters also discusses the book, 'A Morbid Taste for Bones', that she is sending, 'This book enclosed is the first about Brother Cadfael, I hope I haven't already sent you the English copy, as it's been out a year now. This is the American one, just out there. I think you may like it, I had great fun writing it, which is a good sign, and it's had fine reviews here. And the photograph, taken at Buildwas abbey, is the work of a young cousin by marriage who only lives ten minutes away down the lane here.' Peters goes on to discuss the books she has recently written and is writing, modestly stating, 'Books are doing ok.' Peters discusses Cadfael, 'Since then I've done the second one about Brother Cadfael, ONE CORPSE TOO MANY, the one I've just posted off to London. I'm not sure it's as good as this first one, buy I enjoyed doing it, anyhow.' She also discusses how she has promised 'George Hardinge, a short crime story for next year's WINTER'S CRIMES, which he edits, and that has to be delivered by February. I think I'll try and use Brother Cadfael for that, too.' Note: Peters did go on to write the Cadfael short story, 'The Price of Light,' which was published in Winter's Crimes 11, in 1979.
