Description: Here we have a Rare, Vintage McDonough Co. AMES - PLUMB Utility Axe No. 11-720. This example is stamped AMES U.S.A. on the head. There are only small pieces remaining of the thick label that was affixed to the left side of the head. That label indicated that the maker is PLUMB and the tool number is 11-720. You can verify this through pictures on the internet. My research also indicates that this axe has offered by AMES in the 1970's. It is in Good 'Used tool' condition with wear from use. It has the original hickory handle which has an old coat of black paint. NO cracks in handle. The handle is 24-1/2" long (total length is 27-1/2"). The head is 6-1/2"L and has a 4" long edge.
