Description: For sale is my Schiit Gungnir 1st Gen DAC. It is non-multibit with first gen USB card. The USB input stopped working about two years ago and seems to be a very common issue affecting old Schiit gear. The device itself does power on currently and I've included a photo of the power led lit. What Works:Powers onTakes signal input on optical and spdif inputsOutputs SOME audio but not correctly What's missing or doesn't work:USB input card is dead, reseating didnt helpCoax input is just plain missing(details below)Audio outs (both single ended and balanced) act weird. I havent been able to narrow down the pattern but plugging in both balanced outs will cut audio entirely. Single ended outs seem to work but have interference or something and make static sounds periodically or constantly. It's really kind of random. It's missing one screw on the bottom. The history as i know it: I had originally purchased this broken second-hand on eBay in about 2015 and managed to get it fixed with what you can see is the jankiest repair in history. I've had it in service up until this summer and have since replaced it with a nearly identical model. It was never meant to be a permanent repair but I didn't dare touch it as it worked and worked well and there's not much holding things together on the transformer. I suspect it was originally dropped, which caused one of the transformers to snap off the board as well as the coax input. I never needed coax so I just left that as is. Managed to flip the transformer upside down and solder what was left of it via wires back to the board. It is currently zip tied in place as there is no structural integrity left to the actual pins themselves. Most recently I did make an attempt at repair with my limited knowledge of this type of device. Found some mild corrosion on the board underneath. I cleaned it up with 99% isopropyl and used some flux(apologies if some of it is a mess, I discovered I was wildly allergic to flux during this project) to reflow any joints that looked sketchy or had corrosion that was visible. For what its worth, there was no change in performance after this attempt. I also reseated all cards that were able to be reseated with no change. At this point I've replaced it so I'm putting it up for sale in hopes that someone with better knowledge/equipment can resurrect it and get it back into service as I really did enjoy this DAC. Hopefully I've explained that it's absolutely been messed with, is not in proper working order, and as a result I am selling for parts or repair only as it is being sold as-is and will not be accepting returns. Will ship in original Schiit packaging. Thank you very much for looking!
