Description: Pagaent of the California Mission Play of Indian Arts and Craft Colorized Photo. The Mission Play, by John S. McGroarty, was a three-hour pageant portraying the history of the California missions. Performed in San Gabriel, Ca, it was first staged in 1912 across from the San Gabriel Mission. It was seen by over 2.5 million people during the time it was performed! This is a hand colored vintage photograph of the cast of the play for its third season, likely used as an original advertisement during its running! The photo included a Putnam & Valentine Photo logo in the bottom left hand corner, a commercial photography company in Los Angeles that existed from 1895 - Mid 20th century.
