OTTO LINK SUPER TONE MASTER TENOR SAXOPHONE MOUTHPIECE

This listing is for an Otto Link Super Tone Master tenor saxophone mouthpiece. This one has been re-worked by master mouthpiece re-facer Doc Tenny. Doc was one of the best in the business, but sadly he passed away, now over a decade ago. Unlike other re-facers, mouthpieces that Doc worked on rarely come up for sale because people tend to hold onto them! He was particularly adept at re-working modern Otto Link mouthpieces (which are generally not that highly regarded) and turning them into true gems! This piece has the original "7*" stamp applied by Babbitt, followed by an "S" stamped by Doc. I believe the "S" probably stands for 'small' and is a reference to the fact that the tip opening is now slightly smaller than an original 7*. It measures .100", whereas an original would be .105". This, of course, a is a pretty minor difference. My guess is that bringing the tip down a little bit was required to gain relative height in the baffle. This piece does have a much more defined roll over baffle than does a typical modern STM. It looks (and plays) more like an early Babbitt era STM, which is to say it is a bit brighter with more projection. This mouthpiece is in excellent used condition. The facing is perfectly smooth. The shank is round. There are no tooth indentations in the bite plate. There is light wear and scratching to the gold plate finish from normal use. This mouthpiece has been cleaned/sanitized.
