Description: ORIGINAL! INDIAN WARS M1874 2ND PATTERN WATERVLIET MCKEEVER NJ CARTRIDGE BOX INDIAN WARS M1874 2ND PATTERN WATERVLIET MCKEEVER NJ CARTRIDGE BOX Indian Wars Era Model 1874 Second Pattern McKeever Cartridge Box manufactured by WATERVLIET ARSENAL (New York) stamp on the back. It is stamped on the inside with a metal stamp "A. P. SMITH" maker mark (A.P. Smith Manufacturing Company, East Orange, New Jersey) and Inspector stamped W.E.Y. There is a hand penciled number 13 on the inside spine also. This particular cartridge box was made for the New Jersey State Militia. Designed to hold 20 rounds of government 45/70 in two rows of ten each. Made of black leather with the tool pocket on one side, brass corner staples and a brass wear escutcheon on the closing tab. The back of the closing tap is stamped " WATERVLIET over ARSENAL ". The two belt loops are stitched at the bottom and riveted at the top. All rivets and stitching are intact. All 20 cartridge loops are completely intact. This box is a desirable box by virtue of its being manufactured as a plated militia box and not subject to subsequent modifications. Another interesting feature is that the earlier style of decoration (an affixed brass plate) is used on this example rather than a leather embossing. EXTREMELY FINE WITH MODERATE USE AND HANDLING FROM ITS 158+ YEARS. DIMENSIONS (Closed): 7" x 4" x 1 7/8" (please see pictures) PLEASE SEE MY 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK AND BUY WITH CONFIDENCE.
