orig. 1940's BOXING POSTER *Champs of Sports* JAMES JEFFRIES, JOE LOUIS, more!!

Description: >Offered here for your consideration is an old and original 1940's boxing poster from "Champ of Sports" (Albany, New York), entitled "World's Champions and Past Greats of the Prize Ring"!! Please see all eleven photos, as they are an important part of my item description. This authentic vintage boxing poster was printed on thin cardboard stock, measures approximately 28" x 22 1/4" and features outstanding and colorful orange graphics and layout. The "Champs of Sports" company was located in Albany, New York (says "59 South Pearl St."). The poster features seven boxing divisions, with famous boxers pictured dating from the 1940's on back. Many of the brief biographies of the boxers lists who they won the title from, date title was won and hometown of the boxers. <>Bantamweight boxers pictured include: Pete Herman, George Dixon, Manuel Ortiz, Joe Lynch and Kid Williams. <>Featherweight fighters pictured include: Johny Dundee, Terry McGovern, Willie Pep, Abe Attell and Henry Armstrong. <>Heavyweight division includes: John L. Sullivan, James Jeffries, Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey and James J. Corbett. <>Lightweights include: Benny Leonard, Joe Gans, Ike Williams, Barney Ross and Tony Canzonari. <>Welterweights pictured include: Mickey Walker, Jimmy McLarnin, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Walcott and Jack Britton. <>Middleweights include: Stanley Ketchell, Billy Papke, Rocky Graziano, Harry Greb and Jack Dempsey (did not know there were two different Jack Dempseys!). <>Light-Heavyweights pictured: Sam Langford, Billy Conn, Gus Lesnevich, Bob Fitzimmons and Kid McCoy. Surprisingly and shockingly, champion Jack Johnson is not pictured on the poster (my guess is that this 1940's poster's maker was prejudiced against Johnson for being married to a white woman). Outstanding piece of vintage boxing memorabilia! <>Condition: this vintage boxiana is in very *Nice Shape* overall, showing only minor age/handling faults...nice!! There are two small edge tears present, along with a light water stain along the top edge. The cardboard paper has uniformly toned with age. There is very little creasing to mention! There are no tack holes or tape marks from prior display! As you can see, this 1940's boxing poster displays super and is very difficult to find as nice as the example I offer here! The poster is deserving of a mat/frame...or, a simple shrink-wrap on poster board would protect the poster nicely!
