Description: Here we have a wonderful little Georgian plaster plaque roundel of Salisbury Cathedral, England. This 1830s plaster impression resembles Wedgwood's Jasperware with its blue base and white Cathedral.The three dimensional raised blue plaster impression is after a silver medal produced by T Halliday in 1830 of Salisbury Cathedral. You will see to the left side the name HALLIDAY. Housed behind old convex glass in its original 1830s moulded wood frame with original top suspension loop. This miniature historical treasure is ready to display.Salisbury Cathedral is in the town of Salisbury, in the county of Wiltshire in England. It is a fine medieval period cathedral built between 1220 to 1258 and boasts Britain's tallest Cathedral spire. The very tall, very elegant spire is visible upon approach for miles around. It has been a beacon to worshipers in this way for over seven centuries. The Cathedral also boasts Britain's largest Cathedral close at 80 acres and the World's oldest clock from the year 1386. It also holds one of just four copies of the Magna Carta which is Britain's most valuable written history, incidentally this document was the inspiration for the American Constitution.Thomas Halliday was a British sculptor/medalist, token engraver and maker of buttons and studs. He lived from 1771 to 1844. He designed and produced some of the very best commemorative medals of his day and William Wyon (an equally important sculptor/medalist) apprenticed under him.This is a super interesting little conversation piece for your wall, or shelf. Circular plaque approx 2 inch (5 cm) diameter.Condition: Very good, original condition, a lovely patina. Two exceedingly old knocks to outer edge of frame 1 and at 5 o'clock.
