Description: Offered here is a lot of two (2) ICONS featuring MOTHER MARY and CHILD JESUS. Both are on solid wood with wall hangers on the back. (The overall measurement of the smaller one is 10.5" x 5.5" and the larger one is 13" x 10") These Icoons are often referred to by their Greek name THEOTOKOS, meaning "God Bearer" or "Mother of God." They are each classic renditions of the THEOTOTKOS Icon. The smaller one ( features only Mary and the Child Jesus. The larger Icon also has Greek letters which refer to Mother (upper left) of God (upper right) and Jesus Christ (center right). Traditionally Mary's clothing has three stars, one on the forehead and one on each shoulder (the smaller icon shows her left shoulder; the larger icon shows her right shoulder). The position of their faces, the direction Mary is looking, and the position of her hands each add individuality and other meanings to the icons. NOTE: These were not manufactured to be sold as expensive pieces; they were made to be affordable for the common family. They are being offered here the same way--affordable for the common household. They were part of my collection of icons purchased over the years, but now that I've passed the age of 80, it's time to pass these on for someone else to appreciate.
