Description: This is a limited edition print, #14 of 37, of a photograph taken of Frank Zappa at the Palladium in New York City on October 29, 1977. In 2017 this photo was selected to be the cover shot for the Halloween 77 CD, official FZ release #110. This is a darkroom photographic “wet” print from the original 35mm negative on Ilford semi-matt double weight photographic paper. Paper size is approximately 14.5x20” with a 13.875x19.25” image size. The print is treated with selenium toner after printing to enhance shadow detail, add warmth and ensure permanent archival quality. The print is titled, numbered and signed by the photographer in silver ink on the lower front edge. You’re bidding on the exact print shown in the first five photos. Images of the framed photo, Zappa CD and various darkroom images are shown for reference only. Print will be delivered flat, unmounted in a cardboard envelope. Please note, this is one of 37 prints in this limited edition series. Prints #10-15 are a special larger size (14.5x20) verses the standard 10x14 size for the majority of the prints. Each print will be sold separately. While every effort has been made to produce each print as perfectly as possible, every print is unique as there are multiple steps in the photographic printing process which affect the final appearance. I have personally inspected and approved every print. A brief history…FRED MIDGETT gets ZAPPA cover: In October 1977 I took a photograph of Frank Zappa that would become the most infamous photo of my life. An avid photographer since high school, I took my Nikon SLR with me everywhere I went in the 70s and 80s, and always to Zappa concerts. Although I’d taken hundreds of Zappa photos, this shot really captured the essence of Frank and became an instant personal favorite. I mailed a print of the photo to Frank’s office (Glotzer Managament) in LA. I used the image on countless T-shirts and gifts to friends over the years. I also included it in a printed book of my photographs. In the fall of 2017 I learned the photo had been selected from the Zappa archives to become the cover of the album “Halloween 77.” Amazingly the print I mailed to Frank had survived 40+ years in the Zappa archives and caught the attention of the ZFT folks pulling this release together. Since then I’ve had countless interactions related to the photo. I’ve been contacted by the ZFT and given photo credit on the official release notes. I’ve digitized and uploaded my entire catalog of Zappa photos by request of the Zappa family trust. I’ve even had a chance to meet the vaultmeister himself, Joe Travers. My thanks to Frank Zappa for all the joy and connections his music has brought me throughout my life and especially for hanging onto that picture. Having a Zappa cover is the ultimate thrill for this Zappa fan!
