Description: This is a lovely pitcher, made of white earthenware, in Thailand exclusively for Laura Ashley. It appears to have been made in 1992 based on the Latin numerals on the bottom. It has been handpainted in a pretty design of purple grapes and their leaves on a checkered background of black and white squares. It is your typical English pitcher shape, with an art deco handle. It is glazed inside and outside except for the rim on the bottom where it sat while being fired in the kiln. It stands 7 inches tall, measures about 7 inches from tip of spout to outer edge of the handle, weighs 2 pounds 5 ounces and holds 7 cups easily, a bit more to the top. This vintage pitcher is in excellent shape with no chips or cracks, but like glazed earthenware does with time, there is some crazing under the glaze. The glaze is still smooth to the touch. I see some crazing on the inside, on the bottom and on some of the white squares, where it was not painted. I took some close ups of a couple of the white squares and the base that shows some of the crazing lines. Really pretty pitcher, which would be pretty to display, or use if hosting and wanted to serve ice cold water or lemonade for example.
