Published post-humously by James Thurber's wife, Helen, this book is a collection of previously unpublished essays, stories, commemoratives, forewords and appreciations written in curious and humorous tone, covering a wide range of topics. The book includes seven astute and affectionate profiles of Thurber's fellow craftsmen: E. B. White, Elliott Nugent, Mary Petty, Robert Benchley, George S. Kaufman, John McNulty and Scott Fitzgerald. James Thurber (1894 - 1961) was the celebrated author of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and the creator of numerous New Yorker magazine cover cartoons. He was one of the principal American humorists of the 20th century, his matchless wit and pithy prose covered a breadth of genres, including short stories, modern commentary, fiction, children’s fantasy, and letters. CONDITION: This book is in good condition. Tight binding, clean text. Book shows normal fairly minor signs of storage & age. The dust jacket is worn, stained, scuffed, chipped, ripped, has tears, edge wear, and the publisher's suggested retail price has been cut off. The cover is scuffed, has edge and corner wear. Pages have turned yellow from age. The front pastedown, the endpapers at the front of the book and the half title page are stained. There is a Christmas tag and a Christmas sticker affixed to the endpaper at the front endpaper. There are small hollow marks probably caused by pressure (paperclip) on the endpapers at the front of the book. There is a sweet message written to the previous owner on the half title page.
