Description: I see many listings on Ebay for reproductions of these classic Nipper Salt and Pepper Shakers. Even Lenox made high quality reproductions. But these shakers are genuine promotional advertising for RCA Victor from the 1930s. They were passed down to me from my uncle who had a large wholesale electronics business that was opened in the 1920s. RCA Victor was one of the companies they represented and their salesmen would give these shakers as gifts to retailers who displayed and sold RCA products. The dog, Nipper was featured in a 19th century painting by Francis Barroud in Bristol, England that depicted a dog listening to the sound coming from a phonograph. Francis's cousin, Mark Henry Barroud added a caption to the painting "His Master's Voice" and sold the painting and the rights to the caption to the Victor Talking Machine Company. By 1900 it was already one of the most widely recognized corporate logos in the world. By the 1930s Victor had merged with RCA and had become RCA Victor. They continue, even to this day to use the Nipper symbol to represent their brand. These shakers are just over 3 inches tall and are in excellent condition for pottery that is about 90 years old. Reasonable offers are welcomed. I respond quickly to all offers. See my feedback and buy with confidence.
