Description: Garden City Pottery, San Jose, CA. 1902-1987 by Royal Hickman 1930's MAKER: GARDEN CITY by ROYAL HICKMAN DESCRIPTION: This listing is for a good-looking Garden City low bowl. Orange glaze. Pristine condition. This item was hand-thrown by Royal Hickman, who WAS Garden City pottery during his brief tenure there. He brought skill and precision to the task of turning on the potter's wheel and he did everything else well. In addition to designing all the GCP shapes, he formulated the clay body and all the glazes. Hickman unfortunately remains an underrated figure in the history of American Ceramics. He has received less acclaim than other designers despite all of his accomplishments. He was a very creative all-around potter and, in my opinion, deserves more recognition. Orange glaze. Pristine condition. Hand glazed, this piece is rare because of it's size and shape, hard to find DIMENSIONS: a little under 1 3/4" in height by 9 1/4" in width
