Over 90 volumes of fiction, essays, poems and plays appeared in his lifetime A tall man at 6'4", he was in the forefront of the European Literary scene. Neighbor to Rudyard Kipling, friends to W. B Yeats, Bernard Shaw, H.G.Wells, etc. Robert Fitzgerald had a character in his "This Side of Paradise" recite a Dunsany poem Dunsany was an avid chess player and champion pistol shot Outside of his military service and extensive travels, he lived in arguably Ireland's longest-inhabited home, Dunsany Castle near Tara. He had access there to the Library which had a wide-ranging collection dating back centuries and comprising many classic works, from early encyclopedias through parliamentary records, Greek and Latin works to Victorian illustrated books. This was Dunsany's "Wonder Room" and he drew many of his ideas there. The "Last Book of Wonder" was originally published in Britain in 1916 as "Tales of Wonder".
