The data on the rolls vary to some extent, but usually given are the English and/or Indian name of the person, roll number, age or date of birth, sex, and relationship to head of family. Beginning in 1930, the rolls also show the degree of Indian blood, marital status, ward status, place of residence, and sometimes other information. For certain years--including 1935, 1936, 1938, and 1939--only supplemental rolls of additions and deletions were compiled. Most of the 1940 rolls have been retained by the Bureau of Indian Affairs . There is not a census for every reservation or group of Indians for every year. Only persons who maintained a formal affiliation with a tribe under federal supervision are listed on these census rolls. Included on this CD: Reel 022 - Indians of North America--Census; Native American Census - Cherokee (North Carolina): 1898-99, 1904, 1906, 1909-12, 1914 (also includes Carter (Potawatomi Indians) 1915) Reel 023 - Indians of North America--Census; Native American Census - Cherokee (North Carolina) 1915-22 Reel 024 - Indians of North America--Census; Native American Census - Cherokee (North Carolina) 1923-29 Reel 025 - Indians of North America--Census; Native American Census - Cherokee (North Carolina) 1930-32 These are scanned copies of the original pages. They are not neatly typed transcriptions. Quality of handwriting and original pages varies. The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is a federally recognized Native American tribe in the United States of America, who are descended from Cherokee who remained in the Eastern United States while others moved or were forced to relocate to the west in the 19th century. The history of the Eastern Band is synonymous with that of the Qualla Boundary, although the EBCI own, hold, or maintain additional lands in the vicinity, and as far away as 100 miles from the Qualla Boundary. The Eastern Cherokee are the descendants primarily of those persons listed on the Baker Rolls of Cherokee Indians. The Eastern Band is one of three federally recognized Cherokee tribes, the others being the Cherokee Nation and the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma. Check out my other items!
