HISTORY Taylor Tile began in Santa Monica around 1920 as a partnership between Eric Douglas and Frank Taylor. According to California Tile, Taylor scouted Los Angeles County for high-quality clay and ultimately chose Santa Monica as the base. Throughout the 1920s, the company operated as Santa Monica Brick, producing bricks, roofing, and decorative tiles. In 1930, after Douglas departed, the business rebranded as Taylor Tile and focused solely on decorative tile production. Taylor soon found a niche market in tiles for small tabletops, supplying these to furniture manufacturers in the Los Angeles area.
