Description: Stanley/Bailey Early #2 If you're looking at this listing, you already know what this plane is. But why I kept it and used it for over 50 years is actually because of the repair... I received this plane from my grandfather when in my early 20's and used it for the next 50 years (and you don't use a plane for that long unless it's a great one). I'm now 74.My Grandfather, who died in the late 80's at age 94 also got 50 years of use out of it. He recieved the plane as a 15 year old apprentice, from a man who was retiring from the Auto Body business (in 1908 - when automobile frames and chassis were made from hickory and ash!). As my Grandfather told it, he got to keep the plane if he could fix it (you can see the two cracks in the last image). It was the amazing effort that went into such a well-crafted repair, that endeared me to this plane. I can just imagine us trying to affect a repair on any tool today that would enable its use for another 117 years! Unfortunately, we need the money now - every little bit helps. "Retirement" in the 21st century on a SS income just doesn't cut it anymore...
