Description: 1982 horror-drama Swamp Thing starring Louis Jourdan, Adrienne Barbeau, Ray Wise, David Hess, Dick Durock and directed by Wes Craven. The Story: Dr. Alec Holland, hidden away in the depths of a murky swamp, is trying to create a new species - a combination of animal and plant capable of adapting and thriving in the harshest conditions. Unfortunately he becomes the subject of his own creation and is transformed into... Swamp Thing. Comments: Movies based on comic characters tend to be weak on character development, and Swamp Thing is no exception. A good man and a good woman are working on a secret formula in a lab in the Louisiana bayou. A bad guy shows up with an army of mercenaries (led by the always dependable David Hess) to steal the formula. From that point, it's a chase-and-catch-and-escape (and repeat) action film. The most emotive actor in the film is Dick Durock, who played plant-man. Ms Barbeau is added eye candy as she bathes in the swamp (has she ever heard of leeches?) but is otherwise not essential to the plot. Per the label, the film has 93 minute running time (the so-called 'international' edition) and is presented in widescreen 1.85:1 format. The disc has English audio with optional Spanish or French subtitles. This movie-on-demand MOD archive title on recorded media is new and factory sealed. The DVD disc is Region 1, NTSC format, specifically designed to play on DVD players in North America. It will probably not play on a PlayStation or similar game device.
