Description: Complete parts one and two, Kugler's German Flemish and Dutch schools of painting. Handbook of painting based on the handbook of kugler, remodelled by the late professor Dr Waagen and thoroughly revised and in part rewritten by the late sir Joseph a crowe. 6th impression, third edition, with illustrations, in two parts. 1898, John murray, Albemarle street, London. Part one contains a name and date beautifully written on the second blank page. No other writing noted throughout the books. Overall the books have been cared for but show normal signs of use and wear to include normal, but pretty light especially given the age, corner wear and edgewear; some discoloration/smudges/yellowing due to age/use/shelving. The pull out inserts are a nice condition and the pages are pretty nice overall with mostly nice corners. The glue at the spine has deteriorated somewhat but overall looks pretty decent. A piece of paper was inserted as a bookmark at some time and sticks out the top of volume 1; there is some discoloration on that page due to that piece of paper being placed there. I left the paper to mark it for the next owner. Page edges are slightly deckled and the top and long edges seem to be a bit discolored due to age but the bottom is still more white. The lettering and designs on the cover and spine are still pretty nice and is extremely readable.
