Description: Up for your consideration is this wonderful vintage print by Sakai Hoitsu presented by the Museum Of The Art's Boston. This is named "Chrysantemums". The print measures 32" x 12.5 with frame matting underglass. Sakai Hoistu was born Edo (1761-1828). Moved to Kyoto he began his studies in art in the Jano School before moving on to study under Toyoharu of the uklyo-e style. He later studied under Watanabe Nagaku of the Maruyama school and So Shiseki of the nanga style before finally becoming a painter of the Rinpa School. He became a Buddist priest in 1797 and spent 21 years of his life in seclusion. He produced two books on woodblock prints.
