Today we take a look at some vintage Bruce Springsteen with the THREE DISC deluxe edition of 1975's rock masterpiece 'Born to Run', the 2005 DualDisc of 'Devils & Dust', (released THIRTY years after 'Born to Run'), and the DVD of a 9/11 tribute that Bruce performed at. In 1975, and almost fifty years ago, Bruce released one of his best albums, in terms of both commercials sales and how people feel about it. It's his third best selling album, behind a greatest hits album from the 90s, and 'Born in the U.S.A.', which has sold over THIRTY MILLION copies worldwide! 'Born to Run' has moved almost EIGHT MILLION copies worldwide, with SEVEN MILLION sold here in the US alone... In 2005, Columbia released the thirty year anniversary deluxe box for 'Born to Run'. It's THREE discs; one is the original album remastered, and another disc is a live show in London, from 1975, as Bruce and the E Street Band were touring for the album. The third disc is a 90 minute documentary on the making of this classic album, titled 'Wings For Wheels: The Making of 'Born to Run', (and it's awesome)! All housed in a really cool long box. A booklet is included. Two of the three discs still have factory shrinkwrap on them. The CD is black on both sides, made to look like a vinyl record. (The other CD and the DVD are silver.) Book-like case has a tiny bit of wear on it, mainly on the corners. Overall, looking really, really good! Thirty years after the release of 'Born to Run', Bruce came out with an album called 'Devils & Dust', his thirteenth studio album, and his third acoustic album (after 'Nebraska' and 'The Ghost of Tom Joad'). It's a shame, really, as it didn't do very well. Because it's a great album! It was nominated for FIVE Grammys, but won only one. The album struggled to go gold here in the US (500,000 copies). They released 'Devils & Dust' on DualDisc, which contains a surround sound mix of the album! One side is the multi-channel DVD version, which also adds acoustic performances of five tracks from the album, and introductions by Bruce himself. The other side is the original stereo mix of the album. This was produced by Brendan O'Brien, who's best known for producing Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, and several others. Disc itself looks amazing, and is still shiny and clean. DualDisc case also looks great. In 2001, and after the 9/11 attacks, Bruce Springsteen was the first performer to kick things off at a show called 'America: A Tribute to Heroes'. It aired on Sept. 24, 2001, and got released on DVD onDecember 4, '01. It's twenty one artists singing songs of mourning and reflection, with hundreds of candles burning all around the stage. There are also many celebrities sharing spoken messages of hope in between the musical performances. Bruce begins the show with a haunting rendition of his song "My City of Ruin", originally written about his hometown of Ashbury Park, NJ. He changed a few lyrics slightly for the occasion. The entire show is two hours long, and it's actually amazing... Bruce even performed this song, ("My City of Ruin") at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in '06, a year after hurricane Katrina devastated the city. I was at that show, and it still gives me goosebumps thinking about it! This tribute DVD has a few light surface marks on it. Nothing too bad, or that will affect play. Case looks great. This was to raise money for the first responders who survived, and the families of those who did not. Members of both the New York City firefighters, as well as the police officers received help from a telethon that this created.
