Description: "Arrow and Column" by Roy Lichtenstein, (1923-1997) Original 1967 LithographThis is an original design and lithograph from 1967, by the famous artist/designer, Roy Lichtenstein(1923-1997). Roy Lichtenstein's thirty-five year career of public recognition was celebrated (1993-94) by curators of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York with a large-scale retrospective of his work. In 1994, the print exhibition opened at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., touring to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and lastly the Dallas Art Museum. The show coincided with the release of 'The Prints of Roy Lichtenstein: A Catalogue Raisonne', by Mary Lee Corlett. Lichtenstein studied under the American Social Realist painter Reginald Marsh at the Art Students League. He began teaching at Rutgers University, New York, in 1961, and it was then that Lichtenstein found his niche in Abstract Expressionism on which he founded his own Pop Art work.In 1962, he had a landmark art show: a one man exhibition at the Castelli Gallery that presented enlarged depictions of advertisements and comic strip images. It was a sold-out show. The gallery owner Leo Castelli, a major promoter of the contemporary art scene, was a key person in launching Lichenstein's career. In 1963 Lichtenstein created his iconic imagery of D.C. Comics' Girls' Romances and Secret Hearts and exhibited at Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles. In 1965 he created additional works of Abstract Expressionism, one of which being this very listing. Lichenstein exhibited repeatedly with fellow prominent artists of the time: Warhol, Rosenquist, Dine, Rauschenberg and Johns, among others. In the 1990s, he did large-scale abstract interiors, and he also worked in ceramics and enameled steel. Lichtenstein gifted 154 prints created during 1948-1993 to The National Gallery in Washington, D.C.; this is now the largest repository of his prints.Roy Lichtenstein died in 1997, having accomplished many great things during his lifetime.
