Description: Antique Majolica 19th Century Julius Dressler Chrysanthemum Serving Tray. This Beautiful Art Nouveau Tray with it's bold brilliant colors of Green and Pink to Burgundy gradation with lovely Chrysanthemum flowers is a perfect example of designer Julius Dressler. As the Majolica International Society reports, In 1888, Julius Dressler founded a pottery factory in Biela, Bohemia specializing in majolica. Little is known of Dressler after 1910, although it appears the factory remained in existence until 1945. Dressler produced some majolica with a matte surface in the same manner as Wilhelm Schiller. Also introduced were a series of pieces glazed in green, blue and brown with gold highlights. Dressler was clearly the leading Bohemian producer of majolica asparagus and berry servers. It is clear that Dressler embraced the Art Nouveau style in the design of many of these servers. The tray is marked with Julius Dressler's maker's mark - appears as an impressed tower on a bed of rock with the letters ‘JDB’ below. Presumably the ‘B’ is for Biela. This piece is also marked ‘Austria’. It also have a four digit 4814 pattern number. In Excellent Condition. Shows some wear appropriate to age. No chips or cracks. Measures 16 3/4" W x 10" Deep x 2 1/4" Tall
