Description: Antique Catholic Sick Visit / Last Rites Traveling Altar Box. Estimating to be from ~ 1920s. Wooden box with hinges, is approximately 13 1/4" long x 7 1/4'' deep x 3" high. Box has faded purple fabric lining. Top has Crucifix at center (attached - cant be removed),and two fabric pockets. One side holds a small linen square of fabric, the other a paper envelope with cotton. The base has 2 silver candle holders that are attached. There are 2 small silver plates (engraved IHS and just under 5 inches in diameter). There is a small silver cup and a glass bottle with cork closure/crown. I don't know what the silver items are made out of - they are NOT sterling, and don't think they are silver plate either. They could be stainless steel since they are not tarnishing, but I don't see any markings and can't confirm what they are made out of. Wood box shows wear, including a few small dents/chips on top and bottom edges. There is a gold cross nailed on lid. Also included is a small child's prayer book. I do NOT think this is part of the original set - and it is in a foreign language - I believe it is in Polish. Please see photos and ask any questions before purchase as we do not accept returns. We will pad carefully for shipping. Thanks for looking.
