Obverse: Septimius Severus (145–211 AD) was a Roman emperor who ruled from 193 to 211 AD and founded the Severan dynasty. Born in the North African city of Leptis Magna (modern-day Libya), he rose through the military ranks and ultimately claimed the throne during a turbulent period known as the "Year of the Five Emperors." A skilled general, he expanded and fortified the empire’s borders, notably in Britain and the Middle East, and focused on strengthening the Roman military by increasing soldiers' pay and allowing legionaries to marry while in service. Severus is also known for his efforts to stabilize the empire, though his rule included harsh measures against political rivals and increased centralization of power. Reverse: Providentia was the Roman goddess of foresight, planning, and providence, embodying the concept of careful forethought and the welfare of the state. As a personified virtue, Providentia was highly esteemed in Roman culture, symbolizing the state’s ability to provide for its people and prepare wisely for the future. In imperial propaganda, she represented the emperor's wise governance and ability to ensure stability and prosperity.
