Description: Listed French Fresh Impressionist/Realist/Surrealist Artist Michel Viot (1924-2007), Signed, on upper left (on a note, nailed to the stone wall), this Fascinating Musical Figural. It is an Original Oil on Canvas, circa 1960's and depicts 2 boys, dressed in harlequin outfits, with their music teacher, behind them, providing tempo. It has the light and delicate lines of a pencil/ink drawing but is beautifully rendered on canvas with oil paint, giving it an 'trompe l'oeil' effect - a realistic depth, trying to fool the eye. The color palette beautifully renders the shadings of colored pencils, a real challenge to do in oil. A well known and highly sought after artist, many of his works are on paper, making this canvas relatively rare.3 1/2" Wide, Closed Corner, Carved/Chiseled, Gold Leaf, Brown (woodgrain) Scoop, wood moulding, with an angled Linen liner is included. There is some dirt on the liner and minor deviations on the gold, mostly along the bottom. Frame is possibly original to the piece. Canvas measures 18 X 21 1/2 and is in Very Good to Excellent Vintage condition. Outside measure of the frame is 24 1/2 X 28 and is in Good Vintage condition.
