Description: Rare obsolete original insignia for the Afghan army paratroopers from the Republic of Afghanistan era. Measures a large 2 1/2” across. This badge is Type 2, Fourth Class. Type 2 is the second design of the Afghan parachutist badge, from the Republic of Afghanistan which existed from approximately 1973-1978. Fourth Class, with no stars, was given to new Paratrooper recruits. There are 3 types of parachutist badges from Afghanistan: Type 1 from the Kingdom of Afghanistan, Type 2 from the Republic of Afghanistan and Type 3 from the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. The current Afghanistan military does not have any Airborne units. Age and tarnish overall. Some oxidation on the front and a lot on the reverse near the solder points.
