Description: Antique Admiral Dewey Fan, Spanish American War. Up for sale is a scarce to market fan showing Admiral Dewey. The fan is made of silk like fabric and has a wood handle. It is decorated with American flag banner and eagles on both sides of Dewey's portrait. It reads "Admiral Dewey" and "Pluribus Unum". The wood handles show wear and they are tipped at the end with brass. T is a metal latch that holds the two wood handles together. The circumference of the flag has ruffled edges. The fan measures approximately 9 1/2" in diameter and the handles are 9" long. The flag shows some wear and soiling. George Dewey (December 26, 1837 – January 16, 1917) was Admiral of the Navy, the only person in United States history to have attained that rank. He is best known for his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War, with the loss of only a single crewman on the American side.Great piece of history!!
