Description: Usual library markings and card pouch. Suitable for study and research. Formerly belonged to college library. This appears to be the first English edition of this work. The translator's preface is dated 1884. Print date on title page is 1884. Spine ends are worn, top of spine is eroded. Spine is scuffed. Gilt lettering and design remain in good condition. Leather spine overlay has rub wear on edges. Corners are bumped and frayed. Binding is intact, with all pages well-attached. There is some binding spread between pages in places, with partial separation at top, but no outright splits. Pages are in good condition. No marking noted in text. After page 317 most pages were not cut and remain joined in pairs at the front edge. Pages are moderately age-tanned. Not a fragile book. It is serviceable and reasonable care should preserve it. Would make a good companion to the other de Bary book listed, Comparative Morphology and Biology of the Fungi, Etc.
