Description: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. London: William Heinemann, 1915. First edition thus. Publisher's blue/purple cloth, gilt illustrations, lettering and decorative motifs to front cover and spine, top edge coloured, illustrated endpapers; no dust wrapper. Featuring twelve colour illustrations (as called for), black and white illustrations in the text and end papers and gilt decoration on the front cover by Arthur Rackham Good condition. The spine is heavily faded with the gilt decoration and titles now only seen in relief, and the spine tips worn and a little frayed. Covers are just a little rubbed to extremities, there are a couple of very small stains to front, but with gilt decoration in good order. Edges are tanned and lightly foxed, with the top edge colouring a little faded. The binding is ever-so-slightly shaken with several spine breaks throughout, however none of the pages are loose. There are small signs of handling throughout with foxing to prelims and a few of the page extremities. Contents are otherwise clean, plates are not creased and are all present behind tissue guards, as called for. A lovely little first trade edition of this most wonderful Christmas tale following grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge's journey to redemption.
