Description: A beautiful collectible 4 stamp block set of U.S. postage stamps issued November 1st, 1962 as the first stamp to officially celebrate Christmas. The post office expected a large demand for the stamp and originally printed 350 million (the most for any stamp at that time) but severely underestimated the demand. They ultimately printed 800 million and followed up with annual Christmas stamps. There was much controversy at the time as to whether a stamp could be printed to honor a religious holiday and several lawsuits were filed to prevent their printing, all of them failed. The stamp features a Christmas wreath and candles. These stamps have never been used and are as fresh as the day they were sold at the Post Office over 60 years ago! Suitable for framing. they would make a great gift for anyone who loves Christmas or was married or born in 1962. Look in my other auctions for blocks of stamps of other historical significance including additional Christmas blocks! All stamps are Mint Never Hinged. Shipping is $1.00 for first class mail. Additional stamp block auctions won, paid for in one COMBINED transaction and shipped at the same time are only 25 cents extra per auction (sheets and booklets not included), with a maximum shipping charge of $5.00, no matter how many auctions you win.
