The Moravians who settled Salem were persecuted Protestants who arrived in the middle of the 18th century, settling a 99,000-acre tract of land they called “Wachovia,” and they still thrive in the area today. On the front cover is The Single Brothers House. Scene on the rear cover shows “A Maiden in an Old Salem Garden.” Folder contain 12 other color views. 1. Street scene showing “Salem Tavern – 1784. 2. Restored Boys School – 1794. 3. North Carolina’s First fire Engine – Hand pumped water sprayer – 1785. 4. Large tin pot sign of the Tinsmith. 5. The Boys School. 6. Men Flax processing. 7.
