Description: Rare piece of 1940s-50s Van Briggle art pottery in Excellent condition. Figural flower frog created by Nellie Walker, who produced limited editions for the Colorado Springs pottery, called “Special Lines”, which were not mass-produced, not numbered nor placed into Van Briggle catalogs. This specific “Daydreamer” piece is a figural with flower holes on back & cape different from the mass produced, later versions, which also were not flower frogs. It features deep, rich hues of Van Briggle’s striking Mulberry glaze. It also has an unmarked, unglazed “sandy” bottom (a.k.a. “Buff Bottom”, which saw limited use beginning in the 1920s), & which, in itself, is unusual. A Nellie Walker incision is placed at the lowest rear position of the pedestal, next to the period Van Briggle logo. We are privileged to live approximately a 3-hour drive from the pottery, & have toured it on multiple occasions. We once purchased a one-of-a-kind tile, in which the colors were experimentally inverted. Rarities are out there, & the flower frog version of “Daydreamer” falls into this category. Packaged with care.
