Description: I have for sale the 1923 Spanish-American War 25th anniversary medal. The medal is bronze, it is 2 3/4 inches in diameter and in a high grade circulated condition, see photos. This medal is unsigned, but attributed to Charles Keck, and struck by the Whitehead & Hoag company. The obverse depicts Columbia facing forward holding a sword in one hand, a lamp with flame in the other; two shields/plaques to either side list the names of New York City camps. The legend above reads VOLUN - TEERS. The reverse shows a stylized American eagle, with service men to left (army) and right (navy); above sketches of men positioned on a hillside to the left and a Navy ship at sea to the right, with a Spanish-American war medal at the center. A tablet below draped in laurel and oak branches is inscribed: PRESENTED TO - blank space for name - IN GRATEFUL - REMEMBRANCE - BY THE - CITY OF NEW YORK - ON THE - 25TH ANNIVERSARY - OF THE - WAR WITH SPAIN - JOHN F.
