Count Vladimir Alexandrovich Sollogub (1813 - 1882) - Russian official (secret adviser), prose writer, playwright, poet and a memoirist from the Lithuanian family of Sollogubov. Initial fame received as the author of secular stories in which he created a gallery of representatives of the Big Light of Pushkin’s time. Under the influence of Gogol in the 1840s, he shared the artistic principles of the so-called natural school. In a later period of his work, Sollogub mainly worked in the field of drama, wrote vodvili and only at the end of his life took up the novel. The assessments of the writer's work by contemporaries diverged radically: some welcomed promising talentin him, others ridiculed his works as amateurish and imitative. Modern literary scholars states that the secular stories of Solloguba have become a noticeable phenomenon in Russian literature of the 1830s and 1840s.
