The Paris Sketch Book by Mr. Titmarsh is a collection of French travel sketches and stories written by the English author William Makepeace Thackeray, first published in 1840.William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-1863), the renowned 19th-century English novelist, is best known for his satirical works, particularly his novel "Vanity Fair." However, Thackeray also dabbled in other forms of writing, including burlesques. Burlesques are comedic parodies that exaggerate and mock the style, themes, or characters of a particular genre, play, or literary work.William Makepeace Thackeray left behind a significant body of work that continues to be celebrated for its social insights, narrative skill, and enduring relevance. His contributions to English literature have secured him a place among the greatest Victorian novelists. This does not have a Dust Jacket. This is a lovely book in the publisher’s original binding. It is quarter-bound with red cloth on the spine and inner-edges and marbled paper over the boards. There is gilt lettering over a black background on the spine. The cover is intact, robust, and in a good condition for a book which is nearly 140 years old. There is some wear, which is expected from a book of this age. This includes small rips and rubbing to the paper at the corners and edges, discolouration to the cloth on the spine, small marks, light scratches, bumping to the bottom corners, a slight lean to the spine, and creasing on the boards. Please see the photographs provided for further reference. Inside, the pages are lightly tanned, with darker tanning and light foxing on the pastedowns and endpapers. This is consistent for a book of this age. Besides this, the pages are in an overall neat condition, and predominantly uncreased. There is just the occasional small mark/light mark or light foxing on the rest of the pages, and only small creases on a few pages. There are no rips to the pages. On the front free endpaper there is also a small pen inscription. However, there are no further pen or pencil marks written inside this book. Most of the pages are tightly bound and there are just very light and partial cracks in the gutter between the front free endpaper and front pastedown, and pages 71 to 74 are partially loose, just to the very bottom part of the inner binding, and so still secure. All the rest of the pages are secure and there are no completely loose pages. There are no missing pages and so all 376 pages are present. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 13.6 cm by 9.8 cm and 1.9 cm wide. It weighs approximately 176 grams. Thank you so much for looking.
