The marks are old; erosion has made them soft, but deep, regardless of these marks, they don't detract from the devices or legends on the coin; and leave the coin still with pleasant eye appeal. All fields around the coin are great; clean and smooth with the exception of several deep marks, as mentioned, on the obverse and a few less obvious ones on the reverse. The rims are spectacular, no marks to speak of. The Devices are Extremely Fine, you can see the face of the man on the obverse, and all the small light details on the reverse. An Extremely Fine coin for its age of 170 years. This is the subjective opinion of a hobbyist, not a professional; make sure you even question a professional opinion, because there is no clear objective science behind the grading of coins, it is all a matter of opinion.
